Instructions for drying and mailing

Step 6

Place your fresh leaf inside a disposable tea bag, small envelope, or folded piece of paper.

Use something that will allow some air circulation. If you use an envelope, leave the flap open

Put the tea bag, envelope, etc., inside a closed container with some desiccant. A sealable bag or yogurt container will work well.

The amount of desiccant should be at least the weight of the leaf. Extra never hurts!

Leave the container at room temperature for about 3 days. The leaf should feel dry. If it doesn't seem to be drying well, add more desiccant and leave for a few more days.

If you dried your leaf in a tea bag, transfer it to small, labelled envelope. If you dried it in an envelope, you can leave it in that one. Again, a makeshift envelope made of folded paper is fine.

Tape your envelope shut.

Place your small envelope into a mailing envelope. Any envelope will do, but a great way to do it is to send it to us in a greeting card. That will provide some extra protection for the leaf.

Print and place your completed information form in the envelope, too, or email it to pkron@uoguelph.ca.

Send it to us by regular mail. When you mail it, email us at pkron@uoguelph.ca so we know to expect it. That's it!
